tattoos for men on forearm

What does this mean tattoo (military answer please)?
My father was military and was a paratrooper in Korea. He has a tattoo of a black panther on his forearm as a whole. I asked him where he comes – he says he was obtained in the service, I asked what that meant and he refused to say. Like most, he did not mention the war. Someone help me with this mean? (it is not black, so it's not a sign of that group or whatever) Maybe he does say anything, but I want to know. I know it means something important because my brother got the same in the same place as a sort of joke and my Dad on the kick a **.
He and his buddies in his unit probably all the same tattoo. I suspect that much of them were killed in combat, so he does not speak. The other possibility that comes to mind is that it has something to do with a particular transaction it was on, and it is a memorial to what happened. \ Tell your dad "Welcome at home "a Nam vet.
