How many times a day do I put the cream on my new tattoo?

I just got my second tattoo yesterday and the place I says to use NEOSPORIN + pain relief, the cream kind not the kind of healing. Now, my brother told me to put cream 3 times a day, but here's the thing, I placed this morning at 6am … then wakes up again and it was dry at 9am so I put again … I think I need to use it more often because the way it often becomes too dry. What should I do? Put more on more frequently or dry?

I A & D ointment always used. I would put on 5 to 6 times per day.
