The colors represent the different levels of emotional human beings, and also symbolize human psychology and beliefs. The symbolism of color is an integral part of art since antiquity. Our reaction to color is almost instantaneous and has a profound impact on decisions we make every day. In Art and Anthropology, color symbolism refers to the use of color as a symbol of an entire culture.

Color symbolism can vary dramatically between cultures. In India, red is a color religious purity, while in Western countries is a symbol of emotion, love and passion. The Chinese believe that red is about Good Luck, celebrations and Summoning, while for the Jews, symbolizes sacrifice and Sin. However, usually red color is also considered a universally symbolic for Danger, Stop, and other warning signs. Therefore, artists should be familiar with the cultural codes of color symbolism in order to convey their ideas and the public.

Research has also shown that symbolism colors have more positive associations with them rather than negative. Therefore, although some colors have a negative symbolism (such as Black for a funeral or evil), these negative elements are often caused by specific circumstances. The age of the audience also effects on color perception and color symbolism varies accordingly. For example, children tend to prefer bright and cheerful colors and the reflection of enthusiastic and zealous temperament.

 • Color Psychology and symbolism. Each color has a different effect on our psychology and therefore this principle is used to heal people psychologically, a process called therapy color. Here are some common psychology vis-à-vis Color Symbolism:
Black: It increases self-confidence and strength.
Blue: lowers blood pressure and decreases respiration.
Green: It soothes the mind, relax physically, and works as an antidepressant.
Violet: Migraines heals and calms the mind.
Pink: Used as an appetite suppressant in diet pills, relaxes the mind and muscles.
Yellow: improves memory and stimulates the appetite.
Orange: Stimulates the appetite and Digestive System.
Red: increases heart rate, blood pressure and respiration.

All said and done, the field of color symbolism is being an amateur field with much to discover in it. There's no scientific evidence of the effects of a particular color in mind and body.
