tattoo designs art

What things should a person consider when deciding what type of art they want for a tattoo?
What would an intelligent person want to consider when deciding on a design for a tattoo? I am not an artist if it is not easy to find. I kind of know the size and look, but I'm not sure what.
I believe reasonable things to consider: First and foremost, with the exception of removing the laser, you'll have this thing forever. Therefore, I would try to avoid something that seems "catchy" or "trend", but you'll probably get sick of the long (as a group name). Let me try to think what really matter to you as a person. Like any work of art (especially because it is on your body) I think a tattoo should say something more than just "hey this looks cool." For example, I have always been captivated by swimming fast, free nature arising fish in the River. I spent much of my life fishing and I am an aquarium enthusiast, so I think something as an arowana to a shoulder or back tatt. It's personal. Secondly, a fact to consider is that, yes, surprise, surprise people (whether consciously or not) will judge you based on your appearance. In a very realistic feel, the look you choose for yourself will dictate to a certain degree options available to you later in life. Most top-end companies are simply not going to hire someone that tatts or piercings, or other. Heck, even some ordinary people in the street treat you differently. This is obviously a bigger problem if it a large, visible tatt, not at all a problem really if it is a smaller tatt that can not be seen when you're dressed. This is something to think seriously when making your decision. Good luck, make it a good one!
